It is never against any rule of etiquette to say or do a pleasant thing. Etiquette means simply organized usages to prevent unpleasant situations.
In turning over the leaves of a book touch the uppoer corner of the right-hand page and turn it without rumpling the page. It is violation of good sense and good manners to ill-treat a book.
Note-paper is again made very small – partly to economize the writing of many sentences, and partially to have as few foldings as possible.
Gray, smooth paper is very fashionable, and has the additional merit of not tiring the eyes as much as white paper.
The arrival of a baby is announced by sending two cards tied together with a bow of white ribbon, and enclosed in a smooth white envelope within the mail envelope.
There is quite a difference in the size of the two cards. The large one bears the name and address of the parents. The small card has the baby’s name, viz. – John Gutenberg Penn; and under that the date of the birthday, December tenth, 1892.
These cards are engraved or written, according to taste or purse, and are mailed with a two-cent stamp in a sealed envelope.
